The 10GBASE-T Distance Trap<\/h2>\n

Cat6 supports 10G only up to ~55 m; beyond that it falls back to 1G. If your riser runs exceed 55 m and you need 10G, Cat6a is the spec\u2014not “Cat6 everywhere.”<\/p>\n

Where Cat5e Still Wins<\/h2>\n

For PoE cameras, door access and 1G workstation drops, Cat5e is mature, cheap and plenty. Over-specifying Cat6a on every drop is the fastest way to burn margin with zero benefit.<\/p>\n
